Reading in July, 2026
I have two books by Dorothy Sayers open, The Mind of the Maker and Letters to a Diminished Church – not at all Lord Peter Whimsey detective stories. The first is a study of consciousness (of course) with the Christian Father, Son, Holy Ghost as a model for the human experience, Christian or not, of creativity. The second is a set of essays. I’ve chosen to start with one entitled “The Faust Legend and the Idea of the Devil”.
Both, of course, dovetail into my study of how consciousness seems to be at the very least the foundation of our reality – the way Quantum Mechanics results in trees, time and rainbows (clever Owen Barfield reference there).
